The star of Symmetry is SHODAN, all-encompassing AI of Citadel Stations. I’ll add that the level design has seen some changes, with certain areas opened up and unnecessary mazes removed. When SHODAN takes control, everything collapses and the once-peaced station becomes a battleground. There are many areas, from hospitals, Flight Deck, Executive level, the various Groves, among other things. The whole story takes place at the Citadel Station, which is massive in scale. Before you can destroy the Earth, you have to stop SHODAN. Once they awakened, they learned that SHODAN went rogue with most of the crew either dead, mutated or converted into cyborgs. Once everything is done, the protagonist has the implant installed and goes into a six month coma. When you buy an implant that’s a military grade, you’ll get paid a lot. In 2072, a hacker (the protagonist) is a teeter who follows a similar path to the Citadel station, but has to look up some files. It’s a massive leap over the original, but sounds like a new interpretation of the century-old edifice. While the art direction was written down in harmony with originals spirit, there were wide color palettes, real lighting, massively improved character models, detailed textures and effects, and so on. ![]() How is that so famous and what should new fans know about that game? The sound design, non-linear gameplay, combat, horror elements and more were studied before they began to evolve, and they would inspire the gaming in the future. It’s one of the earliest immersive sims and continued to influence games such as Deus Ex.
